Nichole (Agnes Bruckner) and Annie (Caity Lotz) are sisters. They had a difficult childhood with their mother. They have a bad relationship with their mother. That's why they do not live together. When their mother died, Nichole came home to attend the funeral. She also took her daughter, Eve, and trusts her to stay with Liz (Kathleen Rose Perkins), Nichole's cousin. Nichole asked Annie to come. At that night Nicole stayed alone at her mother's home and got the terror. On the next day, Annie came but could not find Nichole. Nichole disappeared. Annie went to the funeral and met Liz and Eve. Annie felt uncomfortable alone in her mother's home, so she took Liz and Eve to stay with her.

In the night, Annie got a nightmare. She saw a man who was sitting on bed in another room in the house. She also found many odd things in the house, such as the refrigerator door opened and foods scattered on the floor. She also felt supernatural power attacks to her body. She take Eve out from home, but she did not find Liz. Liz disappeared, just like Nichole.

Annie tells all things happened to the police, started from the mysterious loss of Nichole and Liz to terror in the house. But no one believes what she said, only detective Creek (Casper Van Dien) who are willing to help. Annie leaves Eve in a daycare, while she prefers to stay in a motel. Although she was not in the house, she still got the terror, such as a clue on 5550 Grosvenor Blvd through digital map and dead body of a woman in bed with severed head.

Annie found her mother's house blueprint. She goes to the house with Creek. They explore each room in the house through blueprint. They found a secret room, like a bedroom behind the wall. There was some old furniture in it. They did not find any clues, but there was something odd in that room. There was a hole on each side of wall in the room. Annie can see into each room in the house through that hole. 

Annie asked help from Stevie (Haley Hudson) who has a supernatural ability to see what is really going on in the house. Stevie saw something terrible in the past and present in the house, but she can not do anything. Stevie said to Annie to do the rite if she want to solve the problem. What really happened in that house? Where is Nichole and Liz?

The rite

In fact, the Pact is not a new film because it has been released in 2012. But curiously, this film has not been released in Indonesia. At the end of January 2014, I had seen this film in theater ad in the newspaper, but until this review posted, The Pact has not been aired in Indonesia. I also do not know the reason though this film has safely content. The scenes are very far from pornography. The intensity of violence and terror are also not as powerful as The Conjuring.

The Pact still offers the things that commonly used in horror film themed haunted house like the odd sounds, the goods that suddenly falls and the creepy figure. The Pact does not use great visual effects, good costume and super make-up to create the terror. So do not expect to get a strong sensation of horror in this film. The creepy figure was very plain with a standard make-up. The terror is not much and not too shocking. So, for a true horror movie lovers would probably rate this movie as a not scary horror movie. That is the weakness of the Pact, not scary at all.     

Since The Pact also a thriller, it has a little different and more special than the haunted house horror movie themed. The ending was very shocking. Getting closer to the end of film, the thriller feels more powerful and dominant. Watching this film reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, Psycho, because both of them mentioned a hole in the wall, hehehhe... What does it mean? I will not tell you more because it makes The Pact so special. Curious? Come on, watch this movie. I promised that the ending was shocking.
