The story begins with a drop of sunlight that fell into the earth and grew up into a golden flower over the hillside. The golden flower was believed to heal wounds and diseases. After a few centuries passed, a kingdom stood and headed by the king and the queen who really loved by the people. This time, the queen was pregnant, but she got incurable disease. The troops and the people look for the golden flower to heal the queen. In the meanwhile over the centuries an old woman named Gothel hides and takes the advantage of the golden flower. She sings a spell so its flower will shine and Gothel's face becomes rejuvenated.

The troops finally found the flower and bring it into the palace. The queen drinks the golden flower and being healed. The queen has a healthy baby girl, beautiful and has a very beautiful blonde hair. The king gave name the baby, Rapunzel. On the birthday celebration of Rapunzel, the king and the queen always flew the lantern on the sky.

All going well, until one night when Gothel infiltrated the palace and go inside Rapunzel's bedroom. Gothel sang a spell which is used for the golden flower and made Rapunzel's hair shined. She touched Rapunzel's hair so she became rejuvenated. She cut it little to take it, but its color changed and do not have an extra power. Gothel kidnaps Rapunzel and take care of her as a daughter in a high tower, hidden in the forest.

Rapunzel is 17 years old now. She is beautiful and has very long hair. Gothel never cut it because she needed it. Gothel also forbade her to get out of the tower. Gothel always told her that the outside is very dangerous because everyone wants her hair, but it is just for the identity of Rapunzel can not be revealed.

Rapunzel will turn 18 years old in a few days. She will see a thousands lanterns in the sky from the tower on her birthday. In a fact, it is the lanterns which always flown by the king and queen on Rapunzel's birthday, hoping to find Rapunzel back. This time, Rapunzel wants to get out and see the lanterns closer, but Gothel does not let her to go out.

Flynn Ryder (Zachary Levi) and Stabbington Brothers (Ron Perlman) steal the crown from the palace and became a fugitive. In their escape, Ryder cheats Stabbington and snatches the crown from them. Ryder ran into the forest and found the tower. Ryder then climbed to the top of the tower and fell unconscious after being hit by Rapunzel. Rapunzel was not told about Ryder and the crown to Gothel.

She found an idea and diverts attention of Gothel. She asks Gothel to find paints as a gift on her birthday because she loves to paint. Gothel fulfill her wish and went to the forest to find paints. Unbeknownst to Gothel, Rapunzel made an agreement with Ryder. Rapunzel asks him to lead her see the lanterns if he wants the crown back, and he was agreed.

Tangled is a Walt Disney's fairy tales, adapted from the Germany fairy tale titled Rapunzel. Until now, the original story and the author can not be ascertained because the Rapunzel story has many versioins. One of the most famous is the version of the Brothers Grimm. After compared with the Brothers Grimm version, Tangled has a different story. Here is the version of the Brothers Grimm that I took from the source http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm012a.html :

• Rapunzel's father and mother were civilians who had long been married but do not have a child. They believe that one day, God will answer their prayers and the wife was pregnant.
• In the surrounding of their house, there is a garden that is forbidden to anyone. Inside the garden, there is a very beautiful flower named Rapunzel. The wife would love to have that flower until she got sick.
• The husband finally had to go to the garden and stole it. But the owner of the garden, the sorceress, knew it. She was very angry. The husband appealed to the sorceress to give the flower. The sorceress agreed but she will take their baby after being born and the husband agreed.
• The sorceress then took the baby and gave her name, Rapunzel. When Rapunzel grew up, the sorceress moves her to a high tower and did not have a door. Rapunzel is very good at singing and has beautiful long blonde hair.
• Ryder in the Brother Grimm version is a prince who was amazed by the voice of Rapunzel. He successfully gets into the tower after seeing how sorceress gets into the tower.

That's all, I will not tell you more about the story of Rapunzel in the Brother Grimm because it would be a spoiler.

Out of the differences, there are some things that have been considered by Walt Disney while working on Tangled. Walt Disney was so identically with the kids, the story will be adapted for children, so it's suitable for consumption by children. What has been done by Walt Disney in this film is successful. I really enjoy the simplicity and sweetness of Tangled. Some funny scenes were very entertaining, especially the Royal Horse (Maximus) behaviour that reminds me of the Disney character, Pluto in the Mickey Mouse.

Tangled is a musical movie, so the audience will be invited to hear the songs that are mostly classic song, which is sang by some of the characters in the film. The music was very good to be heard, so it is not surprising that the Tangled get Oscar nominations in 2011 on Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Picture, Original Song Category.
